Comparatively, FedEx would call me ahead to say I owed X dollars & I would call back & pay in advance of the delivery. You don't get a call or email notice from DHL about the charges until they show up on your doorstep and ask for the payment on the spot with your plastic. Took about a week to arrive & fees were reasonable (no brokerage fee). I recently used DHL Express Worldwide (air service) offered by MoFi (but not by MD yet unfortunately) which is their air service and it was reasonable imho. Rates for Customs Clearance into Canada: UPS - Canada International shipping to Canada, brokerage fees with UPS, FedEx, and DHL I just approved a shipping quote from MD to use UPS Worldwide Expedited.įor Canadians, here is a decent link I found which explains import shipping costs (you're lucky in the US with free shipping and no taxes, etc!): If you live near the border, there might be cross border services to reduce the cost, but with gas at over $2/litre you need to weigh the expense of the drive & your time/hassles. So you pay more for air but save on the brokerage fees. If it ships by air, they waive the brokerage fees, but there could still be other smaller nuisance fees. Anything that ships to Canada by ground (UPS standard or FedEx ground) will be subject to extra brokerage fees. I had been using FedEx international economy which, after the shipping cost, was only a $10 fee + HST. I hoped the new QC process would be better but maybe they just need more time and they will catch these things in the future.Ĭlick to expand.Indeed, MD has switched from FedEx to UPS, not sure why. I bought direct from MoFi so hopefully I can get sleeves and maybe a new second disc. Sound quality isn’t the normal One Step but it’s pretty good and the music is killer. I agree the vocal is dry and distant at times but overall not an issue for me. If you don’t have a copy I think this is quite good, gets going at times and the vinyl was vey quiet except where there are blemishes. Side four, first song has issues that line up with the visual blemish, some kid of film where the disc is different colors. My second disc, side three was excellent as well. This was the first time I heard “Tears In Heaven” after becoming a parent, quite moving. As the show progresses I feel the quality gets better. I had to turn the dial up significantly to achieve the usual sound level. I’m thinking this has to do with the original recoding, but I’m speculating. The sound quality is not great or to say consistent with other One Steps I own. Others may disagree with my analysis here, but I am just trying to be transparent with my thoughts as unbiased as possible.īoth discs are dished warped, lots of blemishes on the discs, both outer sleeves are split.ĭisc one played awesome despite the visual flaws. The instruments do have some pop and sizzle from time to time, but nothing consistent soundstage-wise to really create a good experience. It’s almost a barrier to connecting with the music it sounds so detached from the band. If one were to compare the dynamics, balance, vocal clarity, overall richness of this to say that of Nils Lofgrens Acoustic Live that Analogue Productions released the results are night and day.Ĭlaptons vocals feel buried and distant. If anything the One Step really demonstrates those weaknesses. I know this is a live recording and so the quality is usually not as pristine as a studio-recording but there are exceptional examples out there of live recordings that sound phenomenal and this just isn’t one of them. If only that was my complaint, but the disappointment continues once you start playing the LPs. I am not sure if the printing process is different or why there is such a unappealing quality to this but it is. I know album artwork isn’t exactly what you pay for with these One Steps, but these just don’t hit the mark for me. You can also see how bad the contrast is on the inner sleeves comparatively. I think the original artwork was almost like a screen capture from the MTV episode and so clarity was never really great, but wow does it really show here. I know the picture might be hard to see, but the cover art on the box versus the inner sleeves is very different and both are pretty drab. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I am very disappointed with MoFis efforts on this release. First review from one guy on his one step, (from FB)
